Start with an explanation of the specific instructions are to accomplish the goal.

The screenshot for this step shows the "Add the first step" button, which of course, if you don't click it, you can't use the editor to create your how to article. It does help if you write one offline, before using our editor if you are more comfortable that way, OR if online publishing is new to you. If you were writing a how to on cooking, eg, how to bake a cheesecake, then you'd want to use this step to outline the list of ingredients, the time it takes to make the recipe, etc.

Use the how to editor screen

When you click "add the first step" OR when you add subsequent steps, you get a screen like the image to the right. This is the FunAdvice how to editor. There are three main parts, the title, the body and the attachments (optional). Both the title of the step and the paragraph description are required. Photos and videos are both optional, however they do make for a far better article and are more likely to truly help somebody accomplish a task, goal or teach.

Add multiple photos if it helps to show the process or steps.

Sometimes one photo is more than enough. However there are some steps that would be far better if you use multiple steps. So feel free to add several photos. Most modern browsers will allow multiple photo upload, simply hold down the control key on windows to select multiple, or the command key on your Mac.

Keep in mind that you get a lot of "vertical scroll" in terms of the layout, if you add more than one photo with a step and the step is relatively short. To provide an optimal viewing and reading experience, you might also want to make sure it's a fairly long (eg, several paragraphs) step if you attach multiple photos.

Attach a video if it helps explain the step

You can easily attach a video from youtube by copying and pasting the video URL into the how to editor. The example is provided in the how to editor screen of how to attach a video.

Submit your how to for approval

After you submit it for approval using the green button, one of our friendly staff will review it in the next 24 hours, during the week - weekends may take longer, up to 48 hours if submission is done on a Friday. Please be patient as with any new process, we have no idea if we'll get one submission a day or one hundred...so, if you don't hear back from us fairly quickly, please contact us using the link in the bottom of the page, or drop a note to @thedude or use the contact form.

Once approved, your howto is viewable for all your FunAdvice followers

Every time you write a howto (or it gets liked, or commented, etc) it's an opportunity for everybody who follows you on FunAdvice to read it. So if you write things people enjoy, take the time to create a quality article and are generally helpful, you have a better chance at earning money and feeling the joy that comes from helping others.

Promoting your howto's elsewhere to increase earnings

Of course, not everybody wants to create a how to article to help people. Some of you are probably only doing this for the money. That's fine and we do encourage you to do so, as long as you market, promote and generate awareness in non spam ways that abide by all the relevant rules, restrictions and regulations of your local jurisdiction, as well as the rules of FunAdvice itself.

With that in mind, the most common ways to promote FunAdvice howto's that also generate success is telling friends and family, linking to them from your personal blog, web page, or social network account and more.
